LOSE 20 LBS IN 2 WEEKS! GAIN 15-20 LBS OF MUSCLE IN 4 WEEKS! COME ON, SERIOUSLY!

Not a day goes by where I don't see an ad on tv, internet, or in a fitness magazine that gives false claims like the ones listed in my title. If any of these claims were true then I would probably be out of a job because everyone would be walking around with six pack abs and a model physique. The reality is that there is no quick fix workout or magic pill out there that is going to give you results without hard work, discipline, and time. Some may see this as discouraging  but I feel that there is no greater reward than working diligently  and seeing results from time and effort that was spent on working towards a goal. Think of your body as under construction, just like a new home being built from scratch. There are certain steps required in building a home, measurements must be taken, a foundation should be built, and proper maintenance is needed following completion of construction. The same goes for a fitness program, measurements are needed to set goals, core training is built as the foundation, and progressive overload is incorporated to maintain and improve results.

If you are serious about achieving results then be honest to yourself and set realistic goals. For example, if you want lose weight then set a goal of losing 2-3 lbs a week. This is a doable goal, it does require some self- discipline from a nutrition plan and training regime but it is definitely a realistic goal. If you have trouble staying motivated then get a personal trainer to help keep you accountable and focused on your goals. As mentioned in my last blog, it takes 2-3 months before the body starts to adapt to a training stimulus, so stick with the program if you want to see results. Work with your trainer, discuss your eating habits with your trainer and ask him or her for nutritional advice or consult a nutritional specialist. Lastly, stop making excuses, it is very easy to find a reason not to work out but keep in mind everyday you miss keeps you further away from reaching your goals. Only you alone are responsible for reaching your goals and setting a pathway to a healthy lifestyle.
